20 million phone users to get signal in Oxford after over 2 years

Despite having a store on Norfolk Street in Oxford, and in Bicester, and Didcot, EE mobile users have been without signal in Oxford over two and a half years.

Now, a new mast has been put up on St Aldate’s Chambers, opposite the Town Hall.

Customers initially started reporting issues with service in early 2024.

This is because EE coverage in the centre of Oxford was impacted after a cell tower had been removed.

This was due to a request from the landowner to have the mast removed at the end of January 2024.

Following this widely reported issue EE confirmed it was looking for new locations as soon as possible, and conducting surveys for the most suitable area for a mast.

Despite this customers were still left with no signal for two-and-a-half years.

A member of the EE community support team said: “Over the past month, our engineers have started building the equipment needed for the new mast.

“Barring any unexpected delays, we expect the build to be completed by the end of July.

“Once the equipment has been built, we will arrange a date for the power company to access the area for the power supply and start integrating the mast onto the network.

“Once all work has been completed, we can confirm an approximate on-air date for the new mast.”

EE is one of the largest mobile network operators in the country, with approximately 21.2 million customers across the UK.
