The race is run in support of Muscular Dystrophy UK, the leading charity for the more than 110,000 adults and children living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK.

The race was inspired by Oxford Daniel Cleaver who had muscular dystrophy, whose father and other local runners set up the race to raise money for the charity in 1982.
