Urgent safety recall issued for baby milk ‘with toxin’

Parents who have bought from a list of several Cow & Gate and Aptamil infant milk products are being urged to return them to the store.

Both brands are recalling some of their products due to “the potential presence of cereulide, a highly toxic, heat-stable emetic toxin produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus bacteria, commonly found in contaminated foods like rice, pasta and infant formula.

Food containing this toxin can cause rapid onset vomiting and nausea.

Notices of the urgent product recall have been posted outside the Superdrug in the Oxford Westgate shopping centre.

The notice from Aptamil said: “Customers who have already purchased these products can go to aptaclub.co.uk. to check which batches are affected.

“We are working with retailers o ensure that all products now on shelf are in line with FSA guidance.

“If consumers still have products from these batches, they can return them to the store which they purchased for a full refund with or without a receipt.”

The same advice was issued for the Cow & Gate products, although parents should check with cgbaby.co.uk.

Each product being recalled has a specific date attached to it for when it expires.

There are nine Aptamil products affected and six Cow & Gate products also at risk.
