Oxford United Milk Cup legend inspires next generation

Former Oxford United player Peter Rhoades-Brown visited Aureus School in Didcot, bringing with him the Milk Cup trophy the team famously won in 1986.

Amy King, careers lead at Aureus School, said: “Peter visited the school to speak to students about resilience, focusing on the highs and lows of his football career, and how he overcame setbacks.

“Although he brought the Milk Cup trophy with him, the session centred on character, perseverance, and learning from challenges.”

Now club ambassador and engagement officer for Oxford United, Mr Rhoades-Brown took part in a Year 7 football lesson, visited Year 7 classes, and shared his personal journey with students.

During break time, pupils were able to meet the ex-player, ask questions, and collect autographs.

She said: “Students had the chance to hold real conversations with someone who has lived through the pressures and rewards of professional sport.

“They heard honest reflections about resilience, setbacks, and personal growth; saw an iconic piece of football history up close; and asked questions, sought advice, and made personal connections.”

The visit was arranged through Ms King’s grandfather, a long-time Oxford United season ticket holder, who helped establish a connection with the club.

She said Oxford United had previously visited the school and were keen to return because of the students’ enthusiasm and engagement.

Ms King also highlighted the value of bringing real-world role models into the school.
