Smoking to be banned for anyone born after 2008 in the UK

Published

on

The landmark legislation final draft has been approved by both the Commons and Lords, meaning anyone born after January 1, 2009, will never smoke.

The bill will make it illegal for shops to sell tobacco to those born after 2008 to create a smoke-free generation.

After it gets royal assent, ministers will also get the power to regulate tobacco, vaping and nicotine products.

UK clears smoking bill to create a smoke-free generation

As part of the bill, vaping will be banned in cars where children are present, in playgrounds, outside schools and at hospitals.

However, vaping will still be permitted outside of hospitals to support those trying to quit.

The plan does not affect pub gardens or wider open-air spaces such as beaches and parks.

Smoking and vaping in homes will still be legal.

Once the bill becomes law, the UK will join the Maldives as the second country in the world with a generational smoking ban.

In the UK, there are around 80,000 deaths caused by smoking, which creates an increased risk of health conditions such as strokes, heart disease, asthma and dementia.

Smoking has a large impact on the NHS, costing taxpayers around £3.1 billion a year and more than 75,000 GP appointments each month.

I’m a Celebrity South Africa fans rage at Jimmy Bullard

Published

on

Adam’s time in the jungle was nearly compromised by Jimmy who exclaimed “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here” during a bushtucker trail where the pair were partnered together.

As a result, soap star Adam was meant to leave camp with the former footballer which led to an explosive row between the two.

The Waterloo Road favourite stormed over to Jimmy during a heated exchange and said: “Taking the f****** p*ss, are you taking the f****** p*ss?”

He added: “I’m in there getting covered in f****** ants”.

Jimmy responded by telling him to “calm down” and described his outburst as “pathetic”.

However, because Jimmy had not attempted the challenge, presenters Ant and Dec asked the campmates if they wanted to keep Adam in who unanimously voted for the actor to remain on the I’m a Celeb spin-off.

I’m a Celebrity South Africa fans rage at ‘despicable’ Jimmy Bullard

Now, fans have taken to social media in support of Adam who broke down in tears after finding out he was staying, and slammed Jimmy’s actions as “despicable” and “malicious”.

It comes as someone wrote on the subreddit r/ImACelebTV: “Honestly I’m watching this and Adams crashout is so valid.

“Jimmy is being such a pr**k I mean he could’ve at least ATTEMPTED the trial. ‘Not feeling it’ is not an excuse. Ands he’s being despicable to Adam – even *laughing” at him. Despicable.”

This person replied: “And didn’t Jimmy pick Adam? I was only half watching but I think that makes it worse that Adam now feels like Jimmy might have sabotaged him/ picked him while knowing he wanted to give up.”

One user put: “To pick Adam so quickly and then not even try is crazy. Like he wanted to take him down with him.”

A viewer chimed in: “It seems like he wanted to just get Adam out which seems shady. I like Jimmy aswell, this is out of order.”

Meanwhile, this account shared: “Seems malicious. He’s no genuine sympathy for what he’s taken from him.”

Also in agreement, one profile said: “Adam is valid, he was right, Jimmy could’ve left the morning before the trial. You could tell when Ant and Dec were talking about it Jimmy wasn’t interested and immediately picked Adam.”

However, after fellow campmate Harry Redknapp wasn’t left too impressed over Adam’s fiery reaction to almost being sent home, someone commented: “You can think Adam was understandably upset and still acknowledge he went way ott, it was a pathetic reaction and Harry is right.”

Another posted: “I think Adam was slightly over the top with his anger but at the same time I’d be p***ed off as well.”

One viewer who also thought Adam acted “over the top”, wrote: “Adam’s reaction was too overboard, he acted like a baby throwing his toys out of the pram.”

A fourth Reddit profile stated: “Overall, I’m absolutely team Adam, but that doesn’t mean I have to pretend like the level of his reaction was valid.”

Speaking about his decision to leave the camp in I’m a Celeb South Africa, Jimmy said: “What a kerfuffle.

“Letting Adam down’s a killer. He’s my boy. He’s just on a different journey to me.

“He wants to win it. He wants to do well and I get it.

“I’ve got my mum and dad at home as well. The old man ain’t too well.
