Waterside Court in Wallingford marked its fifth year with a lively celebration, welcoming residents, families, and guests from the local community.

Councillor Ros Lester, mayor of Wallingford, attended the event with her husband and officially cut the anniversary cake, which was made by the home’s head chef.

Entertainment included a performance by Zephyra Belly Dancers and live music from singer Andrew Francis.

Clemence Heriman, senior general manager at Waterside Court, said: “This has been a hugely fun day for all.

“No one can believe it is five years since we first opened, it seems to have flown by.”

Residents also enjoyed a visit from Mark Watson of Radio Cherwell, who interviewed them and took song requests for his next programme.

Heather, a resident at the home, said: “It has been a wonderful day, such fantastic fun.

“And to top it all we had Mark Watson from Radio Cherwell join us to interview residents and staff, we all provided song requests for his next programme.

“We’re so looking forward to listening to these and hearing our interviews.”

Waterside Court is operated by Barchester Healthcare and provides residential and dementia care for 70 residents, offering both short-term and long-term stays.

The popular children’s downhill egg race at Chadlington’s The Tite Inn had a great turnout at one event featured in the Oxford Mail in 2001.

Pictures of easter egg hunts at museums also feature, with children searching the exhibitions for eggs in Banbury and Abingdon museums.

Players from both the men’s and women’s teams visited Oxford Children’s Hospital last Tuesday, March 31, where they handed out Easter eggs, played games, and spent time with patients and their families.

Oxford City men’s players Max Metcalfe and Ewan Clark were joined by women’s players Billie Bough-French and Reese Ayers for the visit.

Ewan Clark said: “It was a pleasure to go along and meet everyone.

“It wasn’t just the patients but also their families and especially the staff who do such an amazing job.

“We are very fortunate in Oxford to have the Children’s Hospital.

“People come from far and wide to get treatment and to have such a facility right on our doorstep is incredible.”

The hospital staff welcomed the gesture, saying it meant a great deal to the young patients.

Geordia Boodell, Health Play Specialist for Oxford Play Services, said: “Every day the children see the same staff and physios, especially those who are in here for a long time, so for them to meet the players and for those players to give up their time and to bring in gifts and Easter Eggs has been really nice.”

Oxford City FC thanked the Co-Op in Marston and Swindon for donating the Easter Eggs that made the visit possible.
